For mid-sized companies

Tax advice from Frankfurt am Main

We advise owner-managed companies, corporations and the German subsidiaries of international groups, from formation through day-to-day bookkeeping to the annual financial statements.

The firm

In Frankfurt am Main since 2011

GFT Steuerberatungsgesellschaft KG was founded in 2011 and has since looked after companies that need more than a tax return in spring. We handle ongoing financial and payroll accounting, prepare annual financial statements and support our clients in all tax matters. One point of contact for everything to do with figures.

Our office is in the Holzhausenviertel, a few minutes from the banking district. That location is no coincidence: Frankfurt is where international companies enter Germany. The European Central Bank, Deutsche Börse, the country’s largest airport and the highest concentration of foreign company headquarters in Germany. For a firm with an international focus there is no more obvious place to be.

A substantial proportion of our mandates has international dimensions. Cross-border matters are everyday work for us, not the exception.

When tax law does not stop at the border

As soon as a company operates beyond the German border, the questions double: which state taxes which profit? How are services between affiliated companies valued? When does a permanent establishment (Betriebsstätte) arise, and what does it cost?

We advise German subsidiaries of foreign companies as well as German mid-sized companies with activities abroad. This includes the delineation between head office and permanent establishment, withholding tax and exemption procedures, and the VAT treatment of cross-border supplies and services.

One focus that has grown over the years is looking after Japanese companies with subsidiaries in Germany, and German companies with business ties to Japan. Four Japanese-speaking contacts are available for day-to-day bookkeeping.

Services

Where we help

Six areas, one point of contact. What we take on depends on what you want to hand over: from individual tasks to full support.

01

Formation & market entry

From choosing the legal form to the notary appointment and tax registration: we accompany the formation, set up the bookkeeping and make sure your company is properly organised from day one. For foreign investors we also coordinate the registered address, banking and official registrations.

02

Financial accounting & annual statements

Ongoing bookkeeping with DATEV, digital and without paper. You receive monthly reports you can actually read, and at year end financial statements under German commercial law (HGB), with a reconciliation to your parent company’s reporting standards on request.

03

Payroll

Monthly payroll, statutory reporting and all questions around wage tax and social insurance. Also for seconded employees and for staff of foreign employers without a permanent establishment in Germany.

04

Tax advice

Ongoing advice, business and private tax returns, structuring questions and support during tax audits. We get in touch before a decision is made, not once the assessment has arrived.

05

International tax law

German subsidiaries of foreign companies, permanent establishments, transfer pricing, withholding taxes and the application of double taxation treaties. One focus is looking after Japanese companies in Germany.

06

Foundations & succession

Family foundation or charitable foundation, anticipated succession, gift and inheritance tax. From the first concept through formation to ongoing support. The legal structuring is handled by cooperating lawyers and notaries; we accompany it on the tax side.

Clients

Who we look after

Our engagements range from sole traders to subsidiaries of listed groups. What they have in common: the wish not to have to deal with tax and bookkeeping themselves.

Getting started

How a working relationship begins

First conversation

We talk about how your company is set up and what you would like to hand over. The initial conversation involves no obligation; tax advice on your individual case is charged in accordance with the German tax adviser fee schedule (StBVV).

Handover

We arrange the powers of attorney, collect the data from your previous adviser and set up the access. This takes almost no effort on your side.

Ongoing support

Monthly bookkeeping, reports and filings. We keep an eye on the deadlines and get in touch when something stands out.

Statements and filings

Annual financial statements, tax returns and publication. Afterwards we discuss the result and what follows from it for the coming year.

How we work

Digital, because it is faster

We work with DATEV throughout. Documents reach us via DATEV Unternehmen online: photographed, scanned or straight from your invoicing software. Paper is possible, but the exception.

  1. 1

    DATEV Unternehmen online

Clients receive their own access. Documents, reports and payroll statements are held in one place and can be viewed at any time.

  2. 2

    Digital document exchange

No carrying folders around, no lost receipts, no waiting for the post.

  3. 3

    Encrypted transmission

All data exchange runs over secure connections.

  4. 4

    Working from anywhere

You do not need to be in Frankfurt for the bookkeeping.
